What made Stella McCartney so successful — in the fiscal year ended Dec 31, sales advanced by 19 per cent and profits were up 0.5 per cent — is that she makes clothes that appeal to a broad demographic, from 14 to 40 and way beyond. For spring, all of McCartney’s signatures — there were maxi dresses, slinky sultry dresses, tailored pant suits, jumpsuits and boyfriend jackets — were all there, and updated with new prints — leopard in black and white, no less — and bursts of intense colours. It was graphic, geometric and layered. And those translucent coloured minaudieres look set to end up in fashionable wardrobes everywhere.
