Nan Goldin has been a unique and influential force in photography and film for close to 40 years. Her photographs are emotional, intimate, often autobiographical, and always empathetic. She has described her early work in terms of a “snapshot aesthetic,” an effort to preserve moments, faces, friends, and memories before they vanish in time. It was the palpable empathy that permeates Goldin’s work that led Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier to approach her for the recent campaign.
